Beginning Paper Piecing - Checkmate
Class Description:
Checkmate is a gorgeous beginning paper foundation pieced quilt project. For those who have never foundation paper pieced or those who were frustrated with other explorations of this great technique, this class is for you! You will learn tips to aid in your accuracy, learn to use rulers that make it possible, and be successful in your project. A beautiful throw size batik kit by Just A Little Something is available for purchase that includes precut fabric pieces for the blocks, precut borders and binding. Participants should have some basic knowledge of quilting.
Supply List
Basic Sewing Supplies: Sewing machine - in good working order.
Machine manual, power cord, foot control and extension table.
Small scissors, fine pins, seam ripper, etc.
Necessary Supplies: Pattern - Checkmate by On Williams Street Quarter Inch Foot
Microtex or Sharps needles - Size 12/80.
Aurifil 50 wt Cotton Thread - Color 2610 Arctic Ice was used for sample. Any basic color such as medium gray or tan will work.
Recommended Supplies: Add-A-Quarter Ruler - either 6 inch or 12 inch
Rotary Cutter with new blade
2 1/2 inch by 12 1/2 Creative Grids Ruler OR Similar
Violet Craft Seam Roller OR Similar
Foundation Paper (60 sheets needed)
Carol Doak’s Foundation Paper OR Papers For Foundation Piecing OR Simple Foundations Translucent Vellum Paper OR
Perfect Piecing Value Pack OR Border Creek Station Paper
Necessary Fabric: Checkmate Throw Size Kit - Batik Fabrics includes border and binding OR

Class Prep: No class prep if purchasing the kit. Fabric has been steam pressed for you. If you bring your own fabric, please have your fabric pressed for class ahead of time. Do not cut anything.
